SASANIAN KINGS. Bahram I, 273-276. Drachm (Silver, 26 mm, 3.11 g, 9 h). Draped bust of Bahram I to right, wearing diadem and radiate crown with korymbos; legend around, ‘mzdysn bgy wrhrʾn MRKAn MRKA ʾyrʾn W ʾnyrʾn MNW ctry MN yzdʾn’, i.e. ‘mazdēsn bay Wahrām šāhān šāh Ērān ud Anērān kē čihr az yaz(a)dān’ (‘The Mazda-worshipping Lord, Bahram, King of Kings of the Iranians and Non-Iranians, whose essence is from the gods’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants, each wearing crown with korymbos; to right and left, ‘NWRA ZY ˗ wrhrʾn’, i.e. ‘ādur ī Wahrām’ (‘Fire of Bahram’ in Pahlavi). Göbl type I/2. SNS II, type I(1)/2A(1a). Edge chipping, otherwise, very fine.
